New Takoradi Market in Ghana

The restructuring and requalification of the new Takoradi market, located in Ghana in the city of Takoradi, will transform the existing market into a large commercial, business and service centre in what is one of the main cities in the country.

The market will house up to 4000 tenants and will stand out as a new centrality. With a circular shape and based on a concept of modular architecture, it is born at the confluence of the main arteries and the harmonious interconnection between the urban and the built fabric, the pedestrian and road circulation spaces and the central square. It will be simultaneously a place of commerce and leisure, respecting the culture, customs and traditions of the city of Takoradi.

Among the solutions adopted, we highlight a metallic superstructure, collaborative slabs and metal stakes. From the point of view of sustainability, the focus will be on ventilation and natural lighting, taking advantage of the concept of a laterally open market. The market will also have its own stations for the treatment of its wastewater and the use of rainwater, reusing this resource in sanitary facilities and taking advantage of the fact that this country has rain for about 6 months a year.

The financing of the first phase of the work was ensured with the support of an Italian agency that supports the internationalisation of Italy's economy through the encouragement of projects in several developing countries.
